Thanks for your comments, Brian,
I've had to take some time to consider my reply! Today I thought I had it... from David Warlick, I was reminded that children today are so much more able to deal with technology. It made me brave enough to have my Gr. 2's attempt (with the help of their Gr. 5 Buddies) to upload their own post on our Edublog website. In fact, the Gr. 2's were more familiar with the actual technology simply because I had already exposed them to it. From Paul Klintworth, I was reminded that there are always new and exciting programs coming out that add their own twist on learning. For example, our district has gone with KidPix, but Paul's school has been investigating 2Simple software. I had used Wordle before, but Paul inspired me to try Tagxedo in a recent blog. From Paul Macoun, I was reintroduced to Scratch, and given enough of a boost to decide to try it out with my Gr. 5 Computer Club. Several of them had already done some personal projects in Scratch (of course! the kids are always ahead!), but Paul's "How to" Wiki gave me a way to introduce it to the uninitiated (and also to gain more "How to" experience myself!)

On reading over your question, however, I realize that you actually asked what was my NUMBER 1 thing was that I would apply in my class. I think I will go back to David Warlick for that one! Technology IS HERE and the children are already immersed in "techno un-educational activities" in their home lives. When I bring educational technology into my classroom, I am extending their learning outwards to the world. There have been times when I wondered if my own passion for technology was overriding more sensible "old school" teaching and learning. I am convinced that they ARE doing IMPORTANT learning, maybe not exactly the same things as in previous years, and maybe not in the same way. What will I do in my class?... CONTINUE investigations into how technology can enhance my students' learning!
:-) Nora

Wow, what a thorough debrief on your CueBC sessions Nora. Great job capturing the essence of what you learned and sharing the links to the various tools you learned about. Sounds like you had a very productive PD experience.

One of the prezis you referred to that I sent out is: http://prezi.com/rj_b-gw3u8xl/playing-to-learn/ by Maria Andersen in case your readers want to check it out.

So I'm wondering what the #1 thing you learned at CueBC that you will apply in your classroom this year?

cheers,
Brian

Hi Jane,
Dinner AND computer tech talk... how great is that!?!
You already know how pleased I am to have a tech buddy to "explore the 'Net" with! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this blog too. It is encouraging to others when they see that we ALL are struggling in our own ways! I hope the rest of the TLI group pass along some of their thoughts too.

This morning I've been working on (my laptop, of course!) uploading videos and polls to my student blog. I have to say that Windows Movie Maker was an easy way to edit and downsize my original videos. It did cross my mind... how easy you do things on the Mac, so I was pleased to see that Windows rose to the challenge!

Hmmm.... now what would I like to eat???

:-)

Well Nora...
If you really can't find your notes, I will open my "notebook" for you and share. The day my pen runs out of ink... I'm in big trouble!!
I too enjoyed and found the workshop quite useful. I have rarely said that about any other "technology" workshop I have attended!
James was definitely upbeat and patient with the likes of myself. I was actually rather proud of my skills. I do have "a little" tech savy tucked away. I was pleased and amused to see many of the ways that DELL is trying to MACsize their PCs. Little things like "dragging and dropping" icons etc. So Mac! I am hoping that I will become friends with this PC laptop. I learned some of the basics. I never really knew what right/left click was ( and because I've left my notebook at school, I can't remember!)
I too was impressed with the videos. It is something I have wanted to learn how to do so I could post some of my class "in action" on our classroom blog. I have watched many on other teachers' sites and am anxious to try it myself (or should I say with Nora's help!).
I promised myself I would get my blog up and running this weekend. I have always "posted" at home from the comfort of my Mac. I'll have to brave my school laptop. First, I will have to learn how to upload my photos on it. Nora ???? Sounds like a dinner date! You'll be getting sick of me!

love,
Jane

I have to send "kudo's" back to Jane... from being a self-proclaimed "tech skeptic" you, Jane, have grown to become an adventuresome "tech user"! You find such great online ideas to experiment with and you add in your own wonderfully artistic perspective. Most importantly, you remain grounded in making the technology serve your educational goals for your students. I'm so glad that you decided to join the laptop initiative!

OK, so I feel a little bit guilty about "dissing" our new laptops!
I am Nora's Mac user friend who thought the new laptops were slow.
I just wish they could be a little "cuter"and less cumbersome. On a more
positive note. I love Nora's enthusiasm!!! I too am excited about the facility
of being able to "hook-up" to a projector and bring our classroom "site" up in the
classroom. I just have to get Nora to show me how to connect a PC! It has so many
different buttons and controls to what I'm used to. I used to bring my own laptop to school
but I always wrestled (in my mind) with the idea that if the District/Ministry wants us to
include "technology" in our teaching practices then they should provide us with the tools
to use. I would have been amiss not to be part of the laptop initiative. Thus... I move forward
and look forward to learning to be comfortable with my new "tool". Thank goodness Nora will be there to guide.

Well, you are definitely bolder than I am. I have many students that continually ask me to befriend them on Facebook; I can't. I could be overthinking it a bit, but I can't help but recall all the legal fallouts resulting from teachers and students engaging in social network relationships.
